Oshima Tsumugi silk is known as one of the famous textiles in Japan. It is the oldest dyed fabric with a tradition of more than 1300 years. This silk is very light, durable and doesn't wrinkle. Initially the fabric is stiff but softens up with wear. It has been used for everyday clothing since ancient times. The colors are produced using a special method of "mud dying," and the beautiful patterns are hand-woven. It is a very complicated process, with more than 32 steps.

Tatsumura Ori

Tatsumura Ori (silk) is known for its uniqueness in restoration of old fabrics both in orient and occident. It is used from theater curtain, tapestry to necktie and tablecloth. The design is mostly based on the old traditional and historical fabrics.

Chirimen

Chirimen is a Japanese silk-crepe fabric. It is almost impossible to find vintage Chirimen with the distinct colors these days. This requires a special tying technique.

Nishijin-ori

Nishijin-ori brocades are elegant and expensive. They are used primarily for Obi, costumes, dolls and crafts. The history of this famous silk weaving dates back to the 8th century. The Nishijin district in Kyoto is one of Japan's largest handmade silk weaving industries.
